In this village surrounded by the abundance of nature, 9 gassho-style houses are still active today. These include the Gokayama Folk Museum where visitors can learn the history of Gokayama, and the Ensho-no-Yakata building where visitors can gain a sense of the Japanese forefathers’ lifestyle. Visitors are charmed by the village’s rich natural environment, history, generations of culture, and pure-hearted locals. ◆Toyama is known for its towering 3000m high Northern Alps. To the west of the Alps lie Tonami Plains and Sankyo-no-Sato village, where top-quality rice is grown and the pure water feeding the Sho river originate. The Wakatsuru Sake Brewery is located in this rich area where the perfect ingredients for sake are readily found. Since its establishment in 1862, the Brewery has continually been striving for better sake.
