2 Update from 1Q11 Quarterly Meeting in Miami
Specification name change OVC Services Definitions changed to: Ethernet Access Services Definitions Terminology Changes E-Access Line Service Type changed to: E-Access Service Type Why? Enables single service type to cover current Point-to-Point and future Multipoint services Service Definition Name Changes: E-APL renamed to Access EPL E-AVPL renamed to Access EVPL New Term Defined: Ethernet Access Provider

3 Ethernet Access Provider
P2P EVC The “Big Picture” View for Site to Site Services Point-to-Point EVC Example P2P OVC1 P2P OVC2 UNI1 UNI2 ENNI Retail Service Provider Ethernet Access Provider E-NNI Subscriber Subscriber UNIs at Subscriber Locations ENNI between: Ethernet Access Provider (operator) and Retail Service Provider Point-to-Point (P2P) OVCs between: OVC1 between Subscriber UNI1 and Ethernet Access Provider ENNI OVC2 Retail Service Provider ENNI and Subscriber UNI2 P2P EVC between Subscriber UNIs

4 Ethernet Service Definition Framework
Ethernet Service Type Ethernet Service Attribute Ethernet Service Attribute Parameter UNI-to-UNI (EVC-based) Service Types (MEF 6.1) E-Line: Point-to-Point E-LAN: Multipoint-to-Multipoint E-Tree: Rooted Multipoint UNI(s) to ENNI (OVC-based) Service Type (New Spec.) E-Access Point-to-Point services currently being defined Multipoint-to-Multipoint services may be defined In future update to specification Ethernet Service Type: Marketing term to categorize a service

5 Ethernet Service Definition Framework
Ethernet Service Type Ethernet Service Attribute Ethernet Service Attribute Parameter Ethernet Service Attributes and Parameters (per Service Type) Specifies requirements for: EVCs, UNIs, EVC per UNI OVC per UNI or ENNI endpoint Layer 2 Control Protocol (L2CP) disposition Service Attributes Enable Service Differentiation

6 Ethernet Service Classification and Definitions for EVC-based Services
Service Type Port-Based Service VLAN-Aware Service E-Line (Point-to-Point EVC) Ethernet Private Line (EPL) Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL) E-LAN (multipoint-to-multipoint EVC) Ethernet Private LAN (EP-LAN) Ethernet Virtual Private LAN (EVP-LAN) E-Tree (rooted multipoint EVC) Ethernet Private Tree (EP-Tree) Ethernet Virtual Private Tree (EVP-Tree) MEF EVC-based services are classified into 2 categories: Port-based Single Service Instance (EVC) per UNI (dedicated UNI) VLAN-aware Multiple Service Instances (EVCs) per UNI (multiplexed UNI) Ethernet Service Types are “Umbrella” categories

7 Access Ethernet Private Line Access Ethernet Virtual Private Line
Ethernet Service Classification and Definitions for Ethernet Access Services (UNI to ENNI) Service Type Port-Based Service (at the UNI) VLAN-Aware Service E-Access Access Ethernet Private Line (Access EPL) Access Ethernet Virtual Private Line (Access EVPL) Ethernet Access Services classified into two categories (just like EVC-based services): Port-based at the UNI endpoint Single OVC Instance per UNI (dedicated UNI endpoint) VLAN-aware at the UNI endpoint Multiple OVC Instances per UNI endpoint (multiplexed UNI endpoint) ENNI supports multiplexed Access EPLs or Access EVPLs Access EPL = Port-based P2P Ethernet access service Access EVPL = VLAN-aware P2P Ethernet access service

8 Frequently Asked Questions

9 Ethernet Access Services FAQs
Ethernet Access Services are point-to-point. Does this limit retail services to E-Line ? No. Any E-Line (P2P) and E-LAN (MP2MP) services can be delivered using Ethernet Access Services. Access EPL is defined with a single CoS. Does this limit a retail service to a single CoS? No. Retail provider can define a multi-CoS service. Access EPL CoS must be selected to meet the multi-CoS requirements
