A recurring unit of meter, rhythm or rhyme that is used in a poem
There are three separate kinds of stanzas

Heterometric Stanza: The lines are different lengths
Quasi-Stanzic: Loose groupings of lines and paragraphs of verse

The repetition of rhyming and lineation (line length) gives the stanza it’s form and power
Stanzas can be both an independent poetic form and part of ballads etc.
Poets would create patterns with stanzas to give the reader something to view as they read the poem
