START on Time! PACK 8/15/18
2
Why START on Time? It is a priority for staff at JCMS to have all students in class on time and ready to learn. If students aren’t in class then learning isn’t taking place. It is difficult for teachers to teach their class and intervene when students are tardy.
3
What will START on Time! look like?
During passing periods you will need to go to your locker, use the restroom and get a drink if needed during. Once class begins (the second the clock turns to the minute class begins- or the bell rings), then teachers will shut their doors. Any students not in the classroom when the door shuts will be directed to the Hall Monitor in their zone. Zone A (Main Hallways) – Mr. Cason Zone B (Gym & Fitness Room Hallways) – Mr. Bates Zone C (8th Grade) – Mr. Clark Zone D (7th Grade) – Ms. Perkins Zone E (6th Grade) – Ms. Warren

What will START on Time! look like?
Once in the Hall Monitor’s office, your name, team and class period you are tardy to will be recorded. The Hall Monitor will then escort you to your class. Once you arrive to class, you will sit in your assigned seat and begin working on whatever task is directed. Students will not be issued any passes the first 10 minutes of class (this includes locker, restroom, drink, library. . .)
5
What if I have a pass from another teacher?
You will still report to the Hall Monitor, they will note that your tardy is excused due to a pass from a teacher when they record your information.
6
What if the Hall Monitor isn’t in the my zone and I am tardy?
If the Hall Monitor isn’t in your zone then you will need to report to the Main Office. They will write down your information and then escort you to class in the same manner that a Hall Monitor would or send you with a pass. When you arrive at class with a “Swept” pass, you will need to knock on the door and present the “Swept” pass to your teacher.
7
Why can’t I have a pass during the first 10 minutes of class?
No passes will be issued the first 10 minutes of class for two reasons: 1. You just had a passing period where you had the opportunity to take care of your needs and get the materials you needed for class. 2. The first 10 minutes of class are vital to your success as a student.
8
What if my teacher keeps me after class and won’t give me a pass to my next class?
If your teacher holds you after class or dismisses you late from your class, then they will have to provide you with a pass to your next class (which excuses your tardy).
9
When do we start this? Thursday, August 16th, we will begin START on Time!
10
What happens if I get multiple tardies?
We will implement interventions based on the number of tardies you receive and the time period you receive them in which include: Parent contact Escort during passing period Conference with administrator Loss of incentive We will run weekly reports to see the number of tardies students are accumulating and make decisions based on that data.
