Victor doesn`t want to face his problems. He wants to run from them in his mind. But he can`t run away because he must go back to his lab. and lodging because Henry needs to return to university.

8. What does Victor believe the creature took from his lodging? -Bedding
Because his bedding is missing, Victor realizes the creature is definitely alive. If it were dead, nothing would be missing from his lodging.

9. ? What does Victor plan to do? It`s alive!
So, what is Victor`s plan of action??

10. “ The monster had taken itself out of his life, and that was good enough for him. Tomorrow he would get rid of everything in his laboratory and start the long, slow process of forgetting all about his insane, foolhardy experiment. ” p.53
He plans to ignore his problem and destroy his laboratory: he wants to erase all evidence that he is connected to the monster.
In the discussion of Chapter three, Fever, we said all people have responsibility about how they respond to a situation. Victor hasn`t changed during his two week vacation; his response is to run away again.

Finally, I want to look at the conversation between Victor and Elizabeth to begin thinking about this theme.
Let`s keep this question in mind when we read Chapters 5 &6!

13. “…In the years since he had left Geneva, Justine had grown from a very pretty girl into a beautiful woman…” Victor: I`m sure she`ll be freed. Just look at her. Elizabeth: No, they`ll hang her, whether she`s shown to be innocent or not. She`s too beautiful for them. They`ll hang her to show the rest of the world that their decisions aren`t affected by a pretty face –that their justice is fair to everyone.”
