The Cell Cycle Foldable
2
Pick up all both handouts
Put Cell Cycle and DNA Pacing calendar on page 1 in your notebook RIGHT NOW We will complete the pictures on foldable together Then you will use powerpoint to complete definitions
3
The Cell Cycle Foldable
Today we will go over the cell cycle by creating a foldable Take your handout and fold it in half so that it looks like this The Cell Cycle Mitosis cytokinesis Interphase
4
The cell cycle The life of a cell
The alteration between dividing and not dividing
7
Interphase The nondividing part of the cell cycle
The nuclear membrane is intact throughout interphase Split into 3 phases G1 phase, S phase, and G2 phase
8
G1 Phase Growth phase The longest phase of the cell cycle
The DNA is loosely spread out
9
S Phase Synthesis phase DNA is replicated
2 sister chromatids are formed, attached at the centromere
10
G2 Phase 2nd Growth Phase Cell prepares for division
Makes the spindle fibers it needs to move chromosomes around
11
Mitosis Division of genetic material and nucleus of the cell leading up to cell division
12
Prophase DNA appears as chromatin coils that pair up as they condense
Nuclear membrane disappears
13
Metaphase Chromatid pairs line up along the middle of the cell
Centrioles form spindle fibers attaching the chromatid pairs at their centromeres
14
Anaphase Chromatid pairs separate and are pulled towards the cells poles by the spindle fibers
15
Telophase Cells get ready to divide into two by forming new nuclear membranes around the separated sets of chromosomes
16
Cytokinesis After mitosis ends
Cytoplasm and organelles of the cell divide forming two identical cells
