2. ראש השנה has four names Yom Hadin – Day of Judgement
Rosh Hashanah – The beginning of the year
Yom Hazikaron – Day of Rememberance
Yom Teruah – Day of Shofar blasts

3. Why these three? Yom Hadin תְשׁוּבָה תְפִלָּה צְדָקָה
We focus on three things:
תְשׁוּבָה
תְפִלָּה
צְדָקָה
Tear up evil decree…these three because they are the three basic relationships: ourselves, Hashem, other people
Why these three?

They’re trying to get us to respond a certain way and focus on the year we want to have – good time to talk about new years’ resolutions. Also emphasize opportunity to start anew

The Torah reading begins with Avraham and Sarah being told they will have a child on the first day and ends with the Akeidah on the second day.

Must be whole – no holes
