Key beliefs Pupils will learn that there are different religious and non-religious perspectives on morality, with a focus on key Christian teachings and principles. They will also learn how these can affect ethical decision making in the world today. Key beliefs Pupils will learn that there are different religious and non-religious perspectives on morality, with a focus on key Christian teachings and principles. They will also learn how these can affect ethical decision making in the world today. Key words Ethics – a system of moral principles. They affect how people make decisions and lead their lives. Situation Ethics – ethical decisions that follow flexible guidelines rather than absolute rules, and be taken on a case by case basis Utilitarianism – An ethical philosophy in which the happiness of the greatest number of people in the society is considered the greatest good. Protection – an aim of punishment that provides safety for society. Deterrence – to prevent someone from committing crime or re-committing crime. Reformation – To reform / change someone from bad to good. Retribution – To gain revenge through punishment. Key words Ethics – a system of moral principles.
