1 That is the Question Jane Fraser, Electronic Arts
To Fix or Not To Fix That is the Question Jane Fraser, Electronic Arts determining whether those last minute bugs should be fixed or not - risk or reward.

2 In the Beginning Not a bug Will not fix As Designed
Works on my machine Can’t repro Need more info In the beginning (of our careers) we struggled to find a bug, reproduce it and log it. As testers we typically want all our bugs fixed. that's why we find them, right? Not a bug, Will not fix As Designed Works on my machine So once we learned how to log bugs, now we are more interested in getting them fixed.

3 Risk or Reward? Should all ‘REAL’ bugs be fixed?
Does the answer differs over time? How do you decide? Is there a work around? When is the next release? the most benign fixes have risks Well sometimes it's more dangerous to fix a bug than to just live with it.  Even the space shuttle has a bug in its video system (or did last I heard) it’s a pixel off, so they know and adjust. As you get closer to a customer release & the code base starts getting more complicated, there is more Risk As there is risk based testing. There also needs to be risk based fixing.

4 What is the Risk? How complex is the code? How complex is the bug?
How much testing time will we have? How close to a customer release? What is the caliber of engineer? Is the engineer familiar the code? Example – rank 50 removing all progress (cheater’s beware) Every time we change code we take the chance of incurring a bug. We need to determine whether its worth the risk. Do you have the time to retest the affected areas  Do you even know the affected areas? With older larger code bases and less experience with parts of it just knowing its broken may be good enough With much of our software or the updates downloadable there is the ability to wait. FIU aka fix in update  KS. Known shippable.

5 What is the Reward? Will the Customer notice the bug? Or Fix
Is there a Financial Impact Affect on the customer List the pros and cons Can you work around the issue? The fix may reveal another bug, it may cause more problems than it solves.

6 Is the Reward > the Risk
To Fix or Not To Fix Is the Reward > the Risk Its all in asking questions. The sky isn’t falling – well maybe Questions?
