Spring into action! The end isn’t the end any more.
Go forth and come together as a community. Ending keynote speech by Chris Worth
2
When I was young person and then even in to my twenties people said:
I don’t think you will ever be able to: Get good training Go to school Live on my own Have a boyfriend or a girlfriend Be an artist Understand difficult ideas Fight for what I believe in Have my own family Have my own friends Be able to change the world Be in the community and have friends Be a community organizer
3
Then people said, to be independent means:
To do it yourself!
5
Then I learned something very important.
6
I learned about a special word, a big word…
Interdependence I learned that it was part of the meaning of the word independence.
8
Independence doesn’t mean we are by ourselves…
It means we have gifts and talents that we bring to the community that others may not have. It means that we have the right to choose our own path. It means that we have real lives now, that we don’t have to wait to leave them. It means that we are important. It means that we can share our gifts and talents with others to get more done. It means that we can take action as individuals and as a community. Independence does not mean: That we can only take action on our own. That we are alone. That we are the best at everything. That we can’t ask for help.

Has anyone heard of captain planet?
Because each one of us is strong we can bring that strength to any group we belong to. And together we become even stronger! Has anyone heard of captain planet?

Captain planet

Captain planet taught me somethings:
He and his team taught me that I can take action on my own, but that it was even more powerful when I worked together with other people to change the world. When I was in third grade I organized my friends to have an Earth Day Protest in our gym.

The power in this room can move out into the world and changing it
The power in this room can move out into the world and changing it. Just by being here you’ve taken action. Now take the tools you have learned, and with your community, your people first group, your church group, what ever group you belong to take action. Use what you’ve learned here to not only change the world for yourself but for everyone you know! Even better convince your friends, family, and community that they have the power to work with you [together] to change the world.

Call to action Today dedicate yourself to getting people together. Even if you already get together in group, get to know your members better Dedicate yourself to doing something with the tools you have learned this weekend and commit that you will ask one of your friends and or chapter members to share their gifts and talents. And if for some reason you’re chapter has not found a way to take action as a group, commit in the next year to try and help your chapter take action.
