Interpreting and Using KS2 scores
2
Be clear on KS2: For current (2018/19) Y10 & Y11 progress is measured from the KS2 average fine level. The average is derived from KS2 outcomes in reading and maths. All progress is measured from this average fine level, including the individual English and maths elements of Progress 8. For all other years, students have scaled scores as their outcomes from KS2. However we do not know yet how the DfE will treat these scores as the baseline for KS4 progress measures.

KS2 scaled scores: Dilemma: “We wish to set targets based on KS2 scaled scores but we don’t understand how they correlate to existing target setting processes involving levels.” They do not correlate.
4
KS2 scaled scores: However, two questions to ask… 1. What does my scaled score distribution tell me about the distribution of attainment in my school, compared to national. 2. Does this distribution show something I’d expect? Is it typical?

KS2 scaled scores:

Inaccurate baselines cause a whole host of problems for measuring accountability further down the line. Unfortunately the DfE are unlikely to tell us how they plan to use scaled scores for accountability purposes until after the event.

KS2 scaled scores: When considering target setting:
Map what you know at KS2 to what you know about KS4. Fill in the blanks. Personalise it.
