Patient 1 has sub-clinical preoperative cognitive decline, suffers postoperative delirium and has relative postoperative cognitive improvement. Patient 2 has sub-clinical preoperative cognitive decline, suffers postoperative delirium and postoperatively follows the predicted cognitive trajectory. Patient 3 has minimal preoperative cognitive decline, suffers postoperative delirium and has accelerated postoperative cognitive decline. Patient 4 has minimal preoperative cognitive decline, does not suffer postoperative delirium and has minimal postoperative cognitive decline.
