Questions of fact: Evidence level
Can be answered by the text One right answer Example: Where does Monty first meet Simon? Key words: summarize, reword, inform, explain, describe, tell, review, list, identify, name, find

Questions of interpretation: Inference level
Require analysis and interpretation Can provide a number of answers that may all be valid, depending on the ability to support position with textual evidence Example: What did Jeff learn through Monty’s experience with Simon? How do we know? Key words: separate, characterize, compare/contrast, categorize, connect, relate

Questions of evaluation: Thesis level
Open-ended questions that move beyond the text Questions require an answer from students’ personal values Example: Who do you most relate to in the movie? Why? How has that character’s learning experience changed your view of the world and your place in it? Key words: recommend, justify, argue, judge, evaluate, persuade, warn, encourage, critique, defend, hypothesize Prepare TWO thesis-level questions to potentially use in the Final Exam tomorrow
