-set out to heal the country’s wounds “long nightmare is behind them” -restore honesty to the Presidency -pardoned Nixon soon after taking office, but this brought great criticism from a cynical public

Policies -inflationary problems -called for voluntary reduction of energy resources -WIN (Whip Inflation Now) -reduced money supply through high interest rates---caused recession -vetoed many spending bills b/c of inflation -Helsinki Accords were foreign policy accomplishment
