Summary of Canto VI -Dante awakes in the 3rd circle of hell
Summary of Canto VI -Dante awakes in the 3rd circle of hell. -It is raining and the rain smells really awful. -Virgil and Dante come in contact with Cerberus (3 headed dog). -Cerberus tries to stop them but Virgil throws a piece of the earth to him and they then proceed into the 3rd circle. -The 3rd circle is for the gluttonous.

-The Punishment of this circle is when the souls have to lay down and let the nasty water rain on them. - A man by the name Ciacco sits up and starts to talk to Dante. -Dante talks with him about politics in Florence when Ciacco predicts a harsh political future for Florence Before Ciacco lays back down he asks Dante to remember his name. -Dante ask Virgil about the Last judgments. -Virgil says that is will be perfect.

New Character in Canto VI
Cerberus- A three headed dog- that has “vermilion eyes” he would “tear the spirits, flay them, and rend them.” (which means he tortured them) Ciacco- He was a former resident of Florence. He was in the 3rd circle because of Gluttony.

The 3rd circle of Hell This circle is for the gluttons.
They are punished because the had to much of something: either its food or something else. The souls are required to lay down and a nasty rain would continually rain on them.

This is a visual example of what a glutton might do. This is rain, but imagine it smelling really bad and it coming down on you. (Eww)
