Volusia County Good afternoon,
I will be presenting on the progress Volusia County has been making concerning the Coast to Coast Wayfinding Concept as unfortunately Tim Bailey had a conflict for today’s meeting. Volusia County, through a grant with the River to Sea TPO developed a wayfinding design package which is currently being reviewed by FDOT. Once it is approved, it will be placed on the street for bids. Also once approved by FDOT, any jurisdiction along the trail can use the design package for their own purposes because of being FDOT approved.

Here you can see the signage that was developed as part of the Rural Urban Design Overlay concepts developed back in 2015/16. The county added the additional squaring components because of concern of safety hazard with the way the original sign had a sharp corner. Other than that, the coloration and design are the same. You will notice that on the bottom of the sign is the SJR2C logo. This logo is being added to wayfinding where the two trails share the corridor. The wayfinding is being incorporated at every cut off from the trail, entrances or side routes to assets or destinations (parks, halls, etc.) and at every trail head. Each trail head has a two sided map sign. One side includes the current segment of the trail with a “you are here” notification. The back of the map shows the entire trail. It is a 3’X4’ map, double sided.

Volusia did research into the thermoplastic concept with the trail markers on the trail itself. They found only one vendor that meets the FDOT standards and they quoted about $600 a piece which was not cost effective. The county decided to implement the newly implemented Seminole County Marker system. The County provided the specs to Volusia County.

Here are examples, and it has something on each side.

This is a section of the design plan that was developed for the proposal by Volusia County. The plan is very detailed and as you can see from this map, the plan includes where each sign and map will be placed along the trail, it’s angle to the trail and other information. So again, once the design package is approved by FDOT, any county can use the package for bidding in your own counties. Any questions?
