Week of January 14, 2019 Parent signature: Mrs. Dasher Peek into the week Spelling Pattern Students will: Reading/Phonics:/Writing - read and spell words with root words with inflectional endings; words with vowel consonant e, ai, ay read A Snowy Day and answer questions about key ideas and details, make predictions and inferences; identify who is telling the story, identify words and phrases that suggest feelings or appeal to the senses Math: (TEST FRIDAY) solve addition and subtraction word problems including finding how many more and how many fewer (when adding- we join groups; when subtracting –we separate groups) add 3 numbers find missing addends and minuends (4+__=7 and __-2=8) solve word problems Fact families (3+4=7; 4+3=7; 7-4=3; 7-3=4) Social Studies: learn that Ruby Bridges was the first African American to attend a white elementary school in the south; she was brave because she went to a new school even though she was scared; her mother wanted her to go to the new school to get a good education Inflectional endings -ed, -ing, -s (played, jumping, pencils) Vowel consonant e (cake, bike, hose, mule) and vowel teams ai/ay (rain, hay) Homework Reading passages- read and answer questions Math practice sheets- time for 4 minutes read and record 4 books on your log Parents please sign the newsletter (indicating that you’ve read the info) on the line below the date. Special notes Reminders Ice cream every Wednesday- $1 If you need appropriate leveled books for your child to read at home, let me know and I’ll send some. The math challenge is January 17. The goal is to get 54 out of 60 correct in 4 minutes. The reward is a dress down day, extra recess and a math certificate! Yearbooks on sale for $27. Make checks payable to EES. Deadline is Feb 8. Spring Run coming February 23, 2019 in Springfield.   Help us win the School Challenge trophy! Information and forms were sent home last week. Box Top collection is happening now. Cut out and send in those box tops for education! Thanks! January 15- National Hat Day- students may wear a hat for $1 th day of school-students may dress like a 100 year old person (not a regular dress down day) 17- math challenge 18-National Popcorn Day- popcorn and coke $1 21- MLK holiday- no school 24-1st grade performing at PTSO 31- PBIS acknowledgement – extra recess, sweet treat, and Eagle’s Nest ( can bring up to $2)
