No articles Plural and non-count

3. Definite Nouns
The speaker and listener are thinking about the same things. (p. 113-Azar) Thank you for the banana. (speaker + listener know which banana) Thank you for the bananas. (speaker + listener know which bananas) Thank you for the fruit. (speaker + listener know which fruit) THE is used with singular, plural and non-count!

4. Singular Count Nouns
A singular count noun (ex. car) is always preceded by: indefinite article (a, an) OR definite article (the) OR this/that OR a possessive pronoun (his, hers, theirs) I drove a car. I drove this car. I drove her car. I drove the car

5. Generalizations
Use plural without article. Use non-count without article. Use singular with indefinite article. Apples are my favorite fruit. Gold is a metal. An apple is my favorite fruit.

6. “White Board” Game With a partner, decide if a, an, the, or NOTHING
should go in the blank.
Write your answer on the white board.
