Job Performance Requirement 15-21
Tying a Rope Between Two Objects
2
A Starting at one end, secure the rope to a solid
object (anchor) by forming a figure eight on a bight and sliding the rope over the anchor. JPR 15-21A
3
B If the rope cannot be placed over the anchor, utilize
a follow-through figure eight to secure the anchor point. JPR 15-21B
4
C Lay the rope out, keeping it as straight as possible to minimize slack, until reaching the other objective to be tied. JPR 15-21C
5
D Measure approximately one-third of the standing part of the rope toward the anchor and tie a figure eight on a bight resulting in a loop 6 to 12 inches long. JPR 15-21D
6
E Wrap the running end of the rope around
the objective and bring it to the figure eight on a bight tied in step 2. JPR 15-21E
7
F Thread the running end through the loop and pull it back toward the objective, tightening the rope as necessary. JPR 15-21F
8
G Using the running end, tie three or four consecutive half hitches around both sections
of rope. JPR 15-21G
