3 Childrens Enuresis Primary Nocturnal Enuresis? Primary nocturnal enuresis is the involuntary discharge of urine at night by children old enough to be expected to have bladder control. Enuresis is considered primary when bladder control has never been attained and secondary when incontinence reoccurs after at least six months of continence

4 Childrens Enuresis Initial appointment - What is worth knowing at this appointment? Primary or Secondary? Parental problems with enuresis Any day time problems Family / housing / school What has been tried before? Actively question the child / family

5 Childrens Enuresis What should you do at this appointment? Fluids – types and amount Urinalysis Exclude constipation What are the childs / family expectations? Signposting -

6 Childrens Enuresis What should you do at this appointment? (GP) All of above – plus: - Abdominal examination USS - KUB Neurological examination Blood tests

7 Childrens Enuresis Treatments – bed alarm; oxybutynin; desmopressin (based on three systems) Follow up? – can you review symptoms? Healthy Child Team Continence Service? Paediatrician?
