Different Learners, Unique Pathways
High School is a unique time in our lives when we have the opportunity to explore WHO AM I? WHO DO I WANT TO BECOME? High School is a unique time in our lives when we have the opportunity to explore WHO AM I? and WHO DO I WANT TO BECOME? As parents, councilors and teachers we want to give all the opportunities possible to our students – to keep open all of the pathways and "all of the doorways" However sometimes the best thing for us to always keep in mind is that by addressing the individual that they are NOW will never close doorways or limit a possible future We are allowing each student to create, define and learn in their own Pathway. Tonight we are hoping to provide information about those various pathways and opportunities that might be available, relevant or useful for your child.

What is my plan for achieving my goals? What are my opportunities ?
Who Am I ? What is my plan for achieving my goals? EDUCATION AND CAREER LIFE PLANNING What are my opportunities ? Who do I want to become ? Discovering Who Am I? Which seems fundamental, can actually be quite problematic and difficult for many students. The combined interests or family, friends and perceived expectations leave many wondering where they "fit" There are many tools out there to assist with narrowing these various fields of interests and competing pressures to help define for each student Who Am I NOW. MyBlueprint is a wonderful tool that to help students begin this journey. The 4 Step Inquiry Model and Pathways Planning
5
myBlueprint Follows the 4 Step Inquiry Model
Under the Who Am I tab, myBlueprint has 6 surveys that students can complete that will help them to articulate Who They Are NOW. I emphasis NOW because who we are is never a static moment but rather continuous journey. As such, these surveys can be repeated and we encourage students to take each survey anew at least once a year. From the results of these surveys as well as the course selections from each year, myBlueprint will help to match students with potential post-secondary opportunities and career paths.

MAKE YOUR PATHWAY YOUR OWN!
At CtK... 37% University 63% College, Apprenticeship, Workplace, Outside of Ontario, “Gap Year” As a society I believe we often have the impression that there are only 2 possible outcomes after high school. Today's reality is far more diverse. When we speak about high school pathways to post-secondary, we speak about 1st Destination and never the final. As you can see for the majority of students that 1st Destination varies quite dramatically.
7
The 4 Destinations… BUT there is one that is best for you!
There is no BEST program OR pathway – College, Work, University, Apprenticeship – BUT there is one that is best for you! Each student is unique in their approach to education, their extra-curricular involvement and their interests. Therefore their pathway through high-school, post-secondary and into their career path will likewise be unique. As parents, councilors and teachers our goal is to meet the needs of each student as they are today in the hopes to guiding them in the direction of their interests, abilities and aptitudes towards post-secondary and beyond.

Opportunities to Explore
Many pathways, many options

Moving forward—Many Pathways
Ontario Secondary School Diploma: 18 Compulsory Credits 12 Elective Credits Including at least 1 from each Groups 1, 2, and 3 These are basic requirements for graduating from a Secondary School in Ontario. Within these very broad guidelines allows for a significant amount of personalization. Increasingly as students move through the grades, they are able to further define their interests and natural talents. Our opportunities to explore and personalize are the focus for the next few minutes.

OYAP Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program
The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) is an opportunity for students who are currently enrolled full time in a secondary school, with at least 16 credits, and 16 years of age or older, to try an apprenticeable trade through a high school cooperative education program. There are several OYAP programs available to students with Halton Catholic District School Board as a partnership with the Halton Public Board. Each program is unique in its set-up and delivery and can be a part of the students grade 12 year or may be added as an additional year 5. We have two representatives from the two OYAP programs offered at Bishop Reding here to briefly explain their programs.

Level and Pathway Choices
Guest Speakers Wendy Giroux – Department Head of Math at Christ the King

The High School Journey To Post-Secondary
Christ the King has approximately 1700 students and each will have a unique pathway to their chosen post-secondary option and further into their chosen career path. Navigating these options is daunting with the fear that with each choice limits are being placed on our students. Choosing Streams or Levels often seems like limiting choices but instead should be viewed as choosing the pathway the best meets the learning needs of that student TODAY. Wendy Girxous to speak about Math levels and pathways.
