Family Practitioner Services On 1 st April 2009 there were 1,855,974 people registered with a GP practice In the 2008-09 financial year there were: 32 million prescription items dispensed One million claims for dental treatments 600k ophthalmic claims 166k patient amendments and almost 58k new patient registrations £716m spent on Family Practitioner Services Over 84% of the population in NI had some form of interaction with a family practitioner

List inflation – Causes Population movement without our knowledge e.g., – People emigrating – Migrants returning home – Deaths of residents outside the jurisdiction Non entitled users – Republic of Ireland residents accessing NI health services

List inflation – Measurement Principle measure is by comparing the NISRA population estimate to the count of persons registered with a GP It occurs across the UK It varies by area and by level of deprivation It varies by age and sex
