Introduction to Electricity
Grade 6 Science Electricity Unit

What is Electricity? Electricity is a type of energy that was discovered over 100 years ago. One of the most common ways to make electricity is by converting other energy sources, such as coal, natural gas, and oil or solar, wind and falling water. It is a form of energy that is carried through wires and is used to operate machines, lights, etc.

Where can you find electricity?

Where does it come from? Electricity is made from many different resources, including non-renewable and renewable sources. Non-renewable sources include uranium and fossil fuels, like coal and natural gas. When they're used to generate power, these sources produce waste, and will eventually run out. On the other hand, renewable sources can be used over and over again to produce energy without creating waste. That makes these resources environmentally friendly. Some examples of renewable sources include solar and wind power. Remember, they only work when the wind blows or when the sun shines.

What happens when we use all of our non-renewable energy sources?

Task... - In your groups, create a KWL chart. Make a list of things that you know about electricity and then a list of things you would like to know - Determine your electricity personality type by completing this online quiz:
