Collaborating With Community

A Vision for New Mexico Schools
Schools provide family services through partnerships with school counseling, health, recreation, job training, and other agencies. Schools work with local businesses, industries, and community organizations on programs to enhance student skills. Collaborative opportunities such as community service and service learning projects are organized and available.

Collaborating with the Community
Engaging community members, businesses, and organizations as partners in children's’ education can improve learning communities through benefits such as expanded learning opportunities, broad-based support for increased school funding, and quality out-of-school time program.

Connect the School with Community Resources
Key Questions to Consider Parent and school leaders should work closely with neighborhood associations, government agencies, businesses, and universities to strengthen the school. These collaborations should make resources available to students, school staff, and families and build a family- friendly community. What links to community resources has the school forged? Have parents and families been part of that process? In what ways has support from community partners been organized?

Collaborating with Community
School Level Reflection Rubric for Collaborating with Community Refer to the School-Level Reflection Rubrics for the areas that you have identified as priorities. These will be helpful in examining what good practices look like and developing ideas for partnership practices and activities as you develop an Action Plan. The School-Level Reflection Rubrics can also be used to monitor progress in reaching goals, designing professional development for school staff, and conducting a school walk-through. The levels of practice build on each other, assuming that practices in the emerging and professing levels will continue at the next level.

How does this Framework Focus Area fit into your Action Plan?
