1 Parents Information Meeting Wednesday 11th September

2 Welcome to Year 6 Class Teacher: Miss Donatantonio

3 Expectations Good attendance and punctuality.
Upholding good behaviour in class and around the school. Being good role models for the rest of the school. Taking on responsibilities. Representing the school outside in the community. Completing home learning and handing it in on time. Returning reading records, reply slips etc. on time. Becoming more independent and involved in their learning. Taking pride in their work and the presentation of their work.

4 What your child will need:
Everyday they should bring in their water bottle, reading book, reading record book and pack of tissues. Letters from parents to be given to the teacher at the beginning of the morning (during register time). Coat for Autumn weather Tuesday – PE kit Wednesday – swimming kit in a small bag Label ALL clothing including P.E. Kits Children to bring in musical instruments on relevant days, where applicable (to be taken first thing to location of lesson).

7 Home Learning Year 6 pupils have home learning packs.
In Year 6, pupils are expected to spend at least hours a week on home learning. At home they need: space, peace & quiet, time and encouragement. Spellings – these will be handed out on a Friday Maths and English – every week there will be a Maths and English task sent home for your child to complete. Reading – minutes per day, parents to sign diary once per week. Guided reading in school – children read a set text together with an adult.

12 Preparing Children in Year 6
Based on assessment information, the children have already been streamed for more personalised learning in Maths and English. Further booster sessions will take place over the course of the year. You will receive a letter if your child is invited to attend. Homework Club will take place every Friday, open to all. Teacher Assessment and SATs papers (every half-term).

16 Year of Our Eucharistic Journey
This year at Pope Paul we are focussing on developing a deeper understanding of Christ in the Eucharist with our children with the support of the family and parish. ‘We are One Body’.

17 The Canonisation of Pope Paul VI Sunday 14th October 2018
By examining the charism of Pope Paul VI we will be looking at how our children can grow closer to God through reflecting on the messages of Pope Paul VI.

18 School Priorities To develop the teaching and learning of spelling ensuring gaps in learning are closed. To further develop strategies to help underachieving pupils to catch up and to improve outcomes for the more able.

19 Parent Communication Please inform the adult in the morning of any changes to school pick-up. Please inform the adult if your child is to attend any after school clubs. A medical note will be given to your child if they have been hurt. We will always relay this to you verbally if you are picking up your child. Please wait for all children to leave before approaching adults for discussion after school.

20 Remember that if you have any concerns then please come and speak to me. Mrs Lennox will be happy to make an appointment for you, and I will be more than happy to meet with you – before or after school.
