1 Effects of pneumoperitoneum and Trendelenburg position on intracranial pressure assessed using different non-invasive methods  C. Robba, D. Cardim, J. Donnelly, A. Bertuccio, S. Bacigaluppi, N. Bragazzi, B. Cabella, X. Liu, B. Matta, M. Lattuada, M. Czosnyka  British Journal of Anaesthesia  Volume 117, Issue 6, Pages (December 2016) DOI: /bja/aew356 Copyright © 2016 The Author(s) Terms and Conditions

2 Fig 1 (a) Ultrasonographic image of the optic nerve. The optic nerve sheath is seen in the sagittal plane and appears as a sharply defined hypoechoic band. The optic nerve sheath diameter is measured using electronic callipers 3 mm behind and in a perpendicular vector with reference to the orbit. (b) Transcranial colour Doppler: spectral waveform with peak systolic velocity and end-diastolic velocity in the middle cerebral artery. 3 Fig 2 Distribution of optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD; a) and intracranial pressure measured with the ICPFvd formula (b) and with ICPPI (c) values measured at each time point. British Journal of Anaesthesia  , DOI: ( /bja/aew356) Copyright © 2016 The Author(s) Terms and Conditions

4 Fig 3 Parallel coordinate plot showing the progression of optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD; a) and intracranial pressure measured with the ICPFvd formula (b) and with ICPPI (c) for each individual (parallel lines) across all stages of the procedure. The cross at each stage is representative of the median values. Post hoc P-values of the differences between time points are provided. 5 Fig 4 Univariate receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis of the different non-invasive parameters. In (a), univariate ROC analysis takes into account the use of pneumoperitoneum (PP; B vs PP); in (b), it takes into account the concomitant application of PP and the Trendelenburg position (TP; B vs TP+PP). In (c), it takes into account the changes in intracranial pressure (ICP) occurring between PP and application of the TP (PP vs TP+PP). Considering time points B vs PP and B vs TP+PP, ICPFVd presented the highest area under the curve (AUC) value. Assessing the effects of application of the TP after PP (PP vs TP+PP), optic nerve sheath diameter had the highest AUC compared with ICPFVd and ICPPI (see Table 2).
