Other types of Inheritance
2
Incomplete Dominance: definition
individuals that are heterozygous are different from either homozygous parent neither allele is completely dominant, the hybrid offspring have a phenotype that is intermediate between the phenotypes of the parents
3
Incomplete Dominance: example
snapdragon flowers appear red when homozygous RR
4
Incomplete Dominance: example
Snapdragon flowers appear white when homozygous WW
5
Incomplete Dominance: example
A cross between red and white flowers produces pink flowers (a blending of red and white) RW
6
Codominance: definition
neither allele is dominant over the other both contribute equally to the phenotype of the offspring and heterozygous individuals show both phenotypes
7
Codominance: example chickens that are homozygous for white colour are WW
8
Codominance: example Chickens that are homozygous for black colour are BB
9
Codominance: example Chickens that are heterozygous for colour are BW and appear checkered
10
Multiple alleles: definition
within a population, there may be more than two versions (alleles) of each trait Each individual can only possess two of these alleles – one on each chromosome
11
Multiple alleles: example
A allele = IA B allele = IB O allele = i
12
Multiple alleles: combinations
Genotype Phenotype IAIA type A blood
