3 For What Purpose? Maintain MT as a neutral basis and common platform for user and provider guidance on ABS Can support education and capacity building Provide guidance to negotiations on implementing good practice and compliance with the CBD BGs

4 Who is the user? Appeal to/ useful to/ guidance to/ all interests in negotiating ABS Providers and Users Emphasis on those not having frameworks/experience (e.g. communities, governments) Large organizations informed on how to do it better or integrate into their processes or ensure compliance to BGs Separation between non-commercial research and commercial use

5 Is the structure of the MT useful and practical?
Three part standard (PIC, MAT, Benefit Sharing): useful focus Do not lose the details in the guidance – to ensure good practices An introductory chapter/revised user guide – plain language for non-ABS experts Road map/step-step guide to the ABS-MT Specific examples of negotiating instruments (e.g. indicative MTAs, MAT/contract) Case studies that illustrate standards and guidance in practice Distinguish grey areas from challenges Interactive electronic format

6 Is the content of the MT useful and practical?
Overall, the content of the revised ABS-MT has improved Ensure the language remain neutral (i.e. available to all users) Addressing triple bottom line needs Add to PIC standard (TK, TK and PIC definitions, and clarity on ownership of genetic resources) Add TK as fourth standard Allow for adequate time for consultation engagement and capacity building Address technology transfer better Ensure high value to providers - low cost to users Guidance on negotiating strategies/methods
