6 Fig 5 Neurologic impairment of nontraumatic SCI cases: ASIA scores. Frankel scores. Grade A: Absent motor and sensory function. Grade B: Sensation present, absent motor function. Grade C: Sensation present, motor function present but not useful. Grade D: Sensation present, motor function present and useful. Grade E: Normal motor and sensory function. ASIA scores (introduced in 1987). Grade A: Complete: No motor or sensory function is preserved in the sacral segments S4-5. Grade B: Incomplete: Sensory but not motor function is preserved below the neurologic level and includes the sacral segments S4-5. Grade C: Incomplete: Motor function is preserved below the neurologic level, and more than half of key muscles below the neurologic level have a muscle grade less than 3. Grade D: Incomplete: Motor function is preserved below the neurologic level, and at least half of key muscles below the neurologic level have a muscle grade of 3 or more. Grade E: Normal: Motor and sensory function are normal.
