English Our first key text is I’ll take you to Mrs Cole by Nigel Gray. During this unit the children will discuss, plan, draft and write similar texts. The second text is called Poetry Pie where the children will learn to perform and write poetry. The final text this half term is Penguins by Penelope Arlon. Through this unit the children will create an information text about a group of animals/people/objects of interest. Religious Education Through our RE lessons we will be answering; Why do Christians worship Jesus Christ? Maths This half tern the children will develop their place value skills by identifying the value of each number in a three digit number. The children will also develop their addition and subtraction skills by developing their formal written methods for these operations. Character Curriculum This term we will be exploring the virtues of caring, helpfulness and cooperation. The children will be learning the importance of caring for our school, helping those who are in need and accepting the strengths and weaknesses of others. Daily Mile The aim of The Daily Mile is to improve the physical, social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing of our children. Children are physically active (run, jog or walk) for 15 mins a day. Year 3 - Autumn Term 1 Topic: Stone Age to Iron Age Big Question: Why are archaeologists so important? Wow Start: Journey back in time Fantastic finish: Trip to Butser Farm Topic The children will learn about Stone Age housing, food, ways of life and jobs and how these changed during this period of history until the Iron Age. We will visit Butser Ancient Farm in Hampshire to see houses and artefacts first hand. In art we will make accurate cut-outs of Stonehenge and learn how to mix different shades of primary and secondary colours to create a background for the silhouettes. STEM This half term the children will be learning about Forces. They learn that forces are either a push or a pull and that these forces cause objects to move. The children will compare how things move on different surfaces by creating a simple test. They will explore magnets and observe how magnets attract or repel each other and attract some materials and not others. They finally learn about how magnets are used in everyday life. P.E The children will be introduced to the new scheme of work at St Andrew’s which is called REAL PE. The children will be developing the ‘Personal cog’ ensuing that they do not give up when faced with a challenge. The other hour if PE will focus on developing the children’s football skills in preparation for the inter-house football tournament.
