Mrs. Hake’s Friday, Nov. 2nd edition CLASSROOM news Week in Review: Sneak Preview Theme for the Week: Turkey Letters of the Week: Xx and Yy Science/Social Studies: holidays Math: Number 8 Rainbow Words: had/in This week we worked on things with vampires, witches and Halloween. For our project, we imagined what it would be like to be invisible. Then, we drew a picture of what we would do when we were invisible with a white crayon that only appeared after we painted it with watercolors. We read “Where’s my Mummy?” and wrote about the things our “Mummys” do for us. We loved doing sight word puzzles, and matching numbers to tally marks. We used bugs to count and painted monsters and spider webs,. Upcoming Events: . in had Weather Rainbow Words Thanksgiving Feast
The weather is turning chilly-please send in a fall/winter appropriate change of clothes for your child to keep in his/her locker in case we get messy or have an accident. The original bag is coming home today. Also, please take time to practice zipping and putting on gloves and hats. Practice with pulling sleeves through that are turned inside out would be great as well! These things really slow us down at recess and dismissal. We DO go outside each day possible. Dress for the weather! Practice writing numbers or words in shaving cream (0-5) Ask your child to identify coins from your spare change. Halloween candy: Make patterns Sort by brand, type, size, wrapper color, etc. Make a graph Test which candies will sink or float in a glass of water Taste Test any new candies and rank them favorite to least favorite Sound out to write words –writing only the sounds you hear! Practice sight words – spell them as you stomp, clap, snap, jump, hop, etc. Keep Reading! Thanksgiving Feast Our Thanksgiving Feast will be November 16th during the school day. This is not a party but a very hands on lesson. Students will get to taste kid friendly foods that could have been at the first Thanksgiving and will learn about, hunting, fishing, and gathering. They will discuss the story of the first Thanksgiving and the difference between the past and present. If items are needed for your class, you received a note. This is not a party. Parents are not needed for this event but please ask your child all about it. It is a great way to make our learning come alive! Rainbow Words Trace, cut, practice: in had
