2 Today We Will: Discuss your action plans and reflect on how they have contributed to a paradigm shift in your buildings.

3 What does “Paradigm” Mean?:
Something that serves as a pattern or model The lens through which we see the world

4 The paradigm of how we see educating students with ASD:
It is shaped by: Assumptions Ideas or concepts Beliefs and values Current practices In other words It is your perspective!

5 What to do with our Paradigms?
Be aware of them Take responsibilities of them, examine them, test them against reality Listen to others, be open to their perspectives Get the large picture

6 Paradigm Shift: Changing one way of thinking to another

7 Have you had a paradigm shift about educating students with ASD?

8 Count off by five’s In your group, list paradigm shifts that have happened to you Report those out to the whole group

Get in your groups according to action plan theme Each group reflect & discuss how your action plan has impacted a paradigm shift in your building List your plan and the shift you have seen Report to whole group

12 Action Plan Themes: Increasing Peer Knowledge- Autism Specific Training Increasing Visual Supports in Environment Staff Training Transition Supports Playground/Recess Supports and Peer Training TA Training/ System of observing TA’s/ System of monitoring TA’s use of supports and strategies Training for building support staff- Cafeteria Staff training/ Secretary training  Develop a tool for peer review Increasing use of student supports across environments Training of new staff Increasing knowledge in AAC Improve family- friendliness of IEP mtgs.
