10  with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things on the earth. 11  also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will, 12  to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ would be to the praise of His glory.

The compound word means, "the management of a household, or of household affairs (Wuest) see Luke 12:42 and Eph 3:9

6 suitable to – or belonging to the fullness of the times
10  with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things on the earth. suitable to – or belonging to the fullness of the times fullness - plērōma - that of which a thing is "full”; the end of an appointed period Thus, it speaks here of an administration by God of a certain period of human history designated as “the fullness of times.” similar passage Gal 4:4 But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,

7 the summing up of all things in Christ,

8 also we have obtained an inheritance
11  also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will, also we have obtained an inheritance in whom also we were made an inheritance (lit: Greek) again a wonderful statement about being “in Him” we were made an inheritance - klēroō - "to cast lots" or "to choose by lot," then, "to assign a portion," is used in the passive voice in Eph. 1:11 comes from God’s statement about His people Israel Deut 32:9 For the LORD'S portion is His people; Jacob is the allotment of His inheritance more to come in Eph 1:14

9 The next part of this verse tell us how this came about!

Henderson

10 more on inheritance & predestination:
11  also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will, more on inheritance & predestination: In verse five (Eph 1:5) believers are said to be foreordained to the adoption as sons, and now we are said to be foreordained to be part of the Lord’s lot—His inheritance. It was part of God’s eternal purpose to gather a people for His name who would be His special possession McCalley according to His purpose according to the purpose of the One (Wuest) purpose - prosthesis - a setting forth, a purpose - It involves purpose, resolve, and design. Rom 8:28, 2 Tim 1:9

11 who works all things after the counsel of His will
11  also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will, who works all things after the counsel of His will working all things according to the counsel of the will of Him lit: Greek working - energeō - "to be active, operative," is used of God in Eph 1:10 – also see Gal 2:7-8 (x2) according to - kata - lit: according to a norm or standard The standard is “the counsel of His will” counsel - boulē - from a root meaning "a will," hence "a counsel, a piece of advice” This means what He decrees He brings to pass. God is able to cause all things to work together to accomplish His purpose. McCalley

12 with a view to our being to the praise of His glory
12  to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ would be to the praise of His glory. to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ “we were the first to hope in Christ” – Who is this? The words “first to hope in Christ” refer to the truth that it was the Jew who was first given the Messianic hope, with Gentiles entering the picture later McCalley would be to the praise of His glory with a view to our being to the praise of His glory Wuest What is God’s glory? glory - doxa - it is used of the nature and acts of God in self-manifestation, i.e., what He essentially is and does, as exhibited in whatever way he reveals Himself Vine

13 examples of the phrase “of His glory”
12  to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ would be to the praise of His glory. examples of the phrase “of His glory” the whole earth is full of His glory the redemption of God's --- possession, to the praise of His glory would grant you, according to the riches of His glory and He (Christ) is the radiance of His glory and to make you stand in the presence of His glory
