The figure depicts the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) isoforms VEGF (also known as VEGF-A), VEGF-B, VEGF-C, VEGF-D and placental growth factor (PlGF), and their binding to the receptor tyrosine kinases VEGFR-1, VEGFR-2 and VEGFR-3 and the co-receptors neuropilin-1 (NRP-1) and NRP-2. Major effects on receptor-expressing cell types in the vasculature and CNS are indicated. sVEGFR-1 can trap VEGF-A, VEGF-B and PlGF and reduce their biological actions. sVEGFR-1, soluble VEGFR-1.
