PCR amplification of a 455 bp ITS1/ITS2 rDNA species-specific fragment from Exophiala dermatitidis isolated from genomic fungal DNA extracted from mycological cultures derived from sputum of adult CF patients, employing the novel primer pair, Exdf & Exdr. Legend: Lanes 1 and 3, +ve PCR result (adult CF patients, whose sputum grew a black fungi, which was positive for Exophiala dermatitidis by employment of this method; lane 2, −ve PCR (adult CF patient fungal culture, which was not positive for E. dermatitidis); +ve, positive control (DNA extract from known culture of E. dermatitidis); −ve, negative control (LAL molecular grade water; Biowhittaker Inc., USA): lane M, molecular weight marker (Gibco Life Technologies, Paisley, Scotland, UK).
