Using Gallatin Countys Interactive Mapping Application Gallatin County GIS

What is the Interactive Mapper? Web-based tool accessible by the public regardless of the Countys business hours One-stop-shop access to the most requested data regarding Gallatin County from both internal and external sources The most up-to-date data from our GIS system available!

The Toolbar Go to full map extent Zoom In – drag a box to go to new map extent Zoom Out – click on map to view slightly broader extent Pan – drag the map to slide the map to adjacent areas Identify – get information about a feature Help – information regarding the toolbar tools Print – print the map

The Legend Pane Graphic Legend: Shows the graphical symbology used on the map. Updates to show only the symbology of the layers currently visible at the current scale of the map.

The Legend Pane Control Legend: Shows the list of layers available in the Mapper, toggles visibility of the layers, and selects the active layer for identifying features.

The Legend Pane Identify Results: Presents the attributes of the feature(s) from an Identify on a map layer.

The Legend Pane Custom Query: A number of queries are available to quickly get you to the information for which you are searching.

The Queries Currently there are 10 queries available.

The Queries - Address The list defaults to the Address query. Address can be typed in all lowercase and still find a match. Include the RoadType for best results (St, Dr, Trl, etc.).

The Queries - Road Select a road and zoom directly to it on the map. Can usually just select the name (without adding prefix, type, or suffix). Drop down the list and type the first letter of your road name to jump directly to that portion of the list.

The Queries – USFS Road Select a U.S. Forest Service system road and zoom directly to it on the map.

The Queries – Township/Range/Section Zoom directly to a township/section on the map.

The Queries – Major Sub. Name Select a major subdivision and zoom to it on the map. Drop down the list and type the first letter of your subdivision name to jump directly to that portion of the list.

The Queries – Major Sub. Number Enter a major subdivision number and zoom to it on the map. Enter the number using the format shown for a successful match. Using all lowercase is fine.

The Queries – Minor Sub. Enter a minor subdivision number and zoom to it on the map. Enter the number using the format shown for a successful match. Using all lowercase is fine. Common names are currently not supported.

The Queries – COS Enter a certificate of survey (COS) number and zoom to it on the map. Enter the number using the format shown for a successful match. Using all lowercase is fine. Common names are currently not supported.

The Queries – Miscellaneous Surveys Select a survey from the list and zoom directly to it on the map. The surveys in this list are those that do not fall neatly into any of the other categories of surveys (I.e. Exchange surveys, Dependent surveys, Homestead entry surveys, etc.).

The Queries – Geocode/Taxcode Enter a geocode or taxcode and zoom to it on the map. Enter the number using the format shown for a successful match.

Identifying Features In the Control Legend, check the box next to the feature you want information about (make the feature the Active Layer).

Identifying Features On the Toolbar, select the Identify Features tool.

Identifying Features Click on the map and the feature will highlight. In the Identify Results pane of the Legend, information about the feature will be shown.

Identifying Features Depending on the feature, additional information may be accessed via hyperlinks. Currently the parcel layer is the only layer with additional information.

Printing 1.Choose map size. 2.Type in a title. 3.Click Make Map In Page Setup, set page to Landscape Print only page 1 of your map to save paper.
