2 The PARCC Vision PARCC states have committed to building a K-12 assessment system that:
Builds a pathway to college and career readiness for all students Creates high-quality assessments that measure the full range of the Common Core State Standards Supports educators in the classroom Makes better use of technology in assessments Advances accountability at all levels.

4 PARCC Assessment Design: Six Priority Purposes Driving Assessment Design:
The priority purposes of PARCC Assessments are: Determine whether students are college- and career-ready or on track Assess the full range of the Common Core Standards, including standards that are difficult to measure Measure the full range of student performance, including the performance high- and low-performing students Provide data during the academic year to inform instruction, interventions and professional development Provide data for accountability, including measures of growth Incorporate innovative approaches throughout the assessment system

5 PARCC Assessment Design
Priorities addressed in a FOUR COMPONENT assessment design. Each component will be computer-delivered and will leverage technology to incorporate innovations. -Two summative, required assessment components designed to: Make “college-and career readiness” and “on-track determinations Measure the full range of standards and full performance continuum Provide data for accountability uses, including measures of growth -Two interim, optional assessment components designed to: Generate timely information for informing instruction, interventions, and professional development during the school year **An English language arts/literacy, an additional required, non- summative component will assess students’ speaking and listening skills

6 PARCC Assessment Design
The overall assessment system design will include a mix of constructed response items, performance-based tasks, and computer- enhanced, computer-scored items. The PARCC assessments will be administered via computer, and a combination of automated scoring and human scoring will be employed.

14 Three Innovative Item Types That Showcase Students’
Command of Evidence with Complex Texts Evidence-Based Selected Response (EBSR)—Combines a traditional selected-response question with a second selected-response question that asks students to show evidence from the text that supports the answer they provided to the first question. Technology-Enhanced Constructed Response (TECR)—Uses technology to capture student comprehension of texts in authentic ways that have been difficult to score by machine for large scale assessments (e.g., drag and drop, cut and paste, shade text, move items to show relationships). Range of Prose Constructed Responses (PCR)—Elicits evidence that students have understood a text or texts they have read and can communicate that understanding well both in terms of written expression and knowledge of language and conventions. There are four of these items of varying types on each annual performance based assessment.

15 Understanding the End-of-Year Assessment
Students will be given several passages to read closely. EBSR and TECR questions will be sequenced in a way that they will draw students into deeper encounters with the texts and will result in thorough comprehension of the concepts. Will draw on higher order skills such as critical reading and analysis, the comparison and synthesis of ideas within and across texts, and determining the meaning of words and phrases in context.
