2 What is an ecosystem? An ecosystem consists of all of the living things (biotic), as well as all of the non-living things (abiotic) in a given area.

3 Organism An organism is any living thing such as a tree, human, or bacteria.

4 Species A species is defined as a group of closely related organisms that are very similar to each other and are usually capable of interbreeding and producing fertile offspring.

5 Population All the organisms of the same species which live in the same geographical area at the same time which have the ability to interbreed

6 Community Different populations of species that interact with one another in an area.

7 Habitat The environment in which a organism or community lives.

8 Niche The role (or job) a species has in its environment – how it interacts within its environment.
