Your introduction should refer to a time in your story before the problem emerged.

Your conclusion should give a sense of completeness even though the story is continuing.
Your conclusion should refer to the present and probably the future.
Most likely your conclusion will be the only part of your essay where it will be appropriate to make very general statements.

I anticipate the following kinds of edits for the first paragraph:
Deletion of sentences at the beginning
An additional sentence at the end
