November 2018 4th Grade News Notes from Your Teachers Congratulations to our 4th Grade Spelling Bee Contestants: Charlotte Johnson, Henry Nochevich and Natalie Roffers Great job! FYI: There will be no Pre-Arranged Cardinal Care for school days off in the month of November. November 2nd November 20th, Noon Dismissal November 21st, 22nd (Thanksgiving) and 23rd Reading and Language Arts Focus Skills we continue to work on: Identifying Facts Vs. Opinions Analyzing Main Ideas and Details and Cause and Effect relationships We continue to develop our writing skill through Writing Workshop with personal narratives and our “Spooky Parents” stories for the Kenosha Public Library annual writing contest. We have some very talented and creative writers! Mrs. Stephanie Kunka & Mrs. Melissa Richards Important Dates Math and Science Focus In Math, we are starting our Division unit! Their focus will be on using multiples to estimate quotients, using models to divide whole numbers that do not divide evenly, using remainders, and using compatible numbers to estimate quotients. In Science, we are finishing up our rock unit! Students will develop an appreciation for the processes that shape the Earth’s surface. We will be starting our investigations of rocks breaking apart and creating potential hazards. Through hands-on investigation, students will explore the world of rocks and design ways of protecting humans from their dangers.  Social Studies and Religion November begins our focus on the Northeast Region for Social Studies. We will explore the land, climate and culture of this region. In Religion we begin our study of the Ten Commandments and we can apply God's laws in our everyday lives. Learning Targets: I can write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences. I can determine the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details; summarize the text I can compare and contrast the point of view from which different stories are narrated, including the difference between first- and third-person narrations. I can divide by one digit numbers.
