3/18/13- Chapter 21 The War At Home Aim: How does a country change at times of war? How did WWII change the culture of the country for many of it’s citizens? Objective: Students will identify the areas where the country changed the most during WWII. Homework #4.10: “Analyzing Geography” 1&2 p. 731 Close: Answer the aim in 3-5 well developed sentences.

CHANGES BEFORE AND DURING WWII…
GROUP CHANGES THE ECONOMY p After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the US rapidly increased war production. War production helped turn the tide of war in the Allies’ favor; mass production of goods used in war increased the Allies’ abilities. The government paid for food that was used to feed the troops overseas during the war, helping the profit of these companies. WOMEN p.721, p.729 Women joined the armed forces as they did during WWI. Women were enlisted during WWII in larger amounts than WWI although they were not on the battlefield. Before the war, many women didn’t work in factory jobs involving “riveting” or hard labor but they did during WWII filling vacancies of their husbands & fathers. AFRICAN AMERICANS p.730 AA were discriminated against when looking for employment. FDR was angry by this & he created the Fair Employment Practices Commission ensuring that there should be NO discrimination in employment.
