FIGURE 1 An oscillographic record from a dog with electrically-induced extrasystoles. A: An early extrasystole with three atrial contractions (asterisks) all of which occur during diastole. B: A later extrasystole with the second atrial contraction occurring during ventricular systole when the mitral valve is closed. Although it appears to be a “v” wave suggestive of mitral regurgitation, the mitral flow trace shows no backflow (encircled trace).
