The Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) show the increasing or decreasing of white matter integrity based on physical exercise or no physical exercise. The exercise was a 6 month long regiment of cardiovascular exercise such as biking or running. Cardiovascular exercise was determined by a physician when the patient/test subject reach the maximum oxygen update. The exercise regiment was 1 hour twice weekly, consisting of 40 minutes of aerobic and 20 minutes of anaerobic exercise. The exercise regiment was done on an upright bicycle ergometer, rowing machine, cross trainer and tread mill. Anaerobic was done on a weight lifting machine. The areas in read show patients who have increased white matter integrity – meaning healthy neural connections the myelin sheaths intact The areas in blue show patients who had decreased white matter integrity – the signal isn’t as strong. *White matter integrity means the health of the neuron integrity. Myelin sheathing health!
