4 Types of Stress 1. Distress 2. Positive Stress (Eustress)

5 Distress 1. Is the negative physical, mental, or emotional strain in response to a stressor. 2. Can make you sick or interfere with your life. Examples: a. Forgetting your lunch money. b. Getting into a car accident.

6 Positive Stress 1. Is the stress response that happens when winning, succeeding, and achieving. 2. Can give you an extra energy boost to win the race. 3. It can motivate, energize, and excite you.

7 Potential Stress & Stressors
1. Arguing with a parent, brother, or sister. 2. Getting glasses, or braces. 3. Moving to a new home in a new town. 4. Getting in trouble with a teacher / principal at school. 5. Making a speech in front of the class.

8 Stress Response 1. Stress Response: is also callled “Fight or Flight” response. Is your body’s reaction to a stressor. These changes are immediate and are an unconscious physical response.

9 Physical Response to Stress
1. Body releases Epinephrine Which is a stress hormone that increases the level of sugar in your blood. More blood goes to your brain. Hearing and vision sharpen. Breathing speeds up. Heart beats faster. More blood goes to your legs and arms.

10 Lasting effects of Stress
1. May have difficulty sleeping or have frequent headaches. 2. May have mental or emotional problems or cry for no reason. 3. May become bored, depressed, or frustrated. 4. May feel tense, irritable, and overwhelmed. 5. May have trouble concentrating on schoolwork and making decisions. 6. Prolonged distress can be serious.
