2 1. World Depression Identification
Low economic activity & rising unemployment, which starts in USA and then spreads to the world Significance agriculture and industry production decline people are jobless and hungry

3 2. Fascism Identification
A political ideology and party where the nation and race is emphasized more than the individual Significance: The nation becomes stronger through conflict War is necessary for the glory of the state Leaders blame others for their countries problems

4 3. Nazi Party and Third Reich
Identification: German Fascist Political Party  Third German Empire Promised a return of economic growth and return of German pride through the dismantling of the Treaty of Versailles. Significance: Used violence, hatred and extreme racial views to gain political power (dictatorship)

5 4. Expansionism Identification: Gaining control of neighboring
counties to bring glory and strength to the “mother” country Significance Germany – conquer and control Europe Italy – conquer and control Africa Japan – conquer and control Asia

6 5. Appeasement Identification
Policy of settling international quarrels by satisfying grievances through rational negotiation and compromise, thereby avoiding the an armed conflict.

7 British Prime Minister Chamberlain, landing in England in 1938 after his meeting with Hitler at Munich. In his hand he holds the peace agreement between Britain and Germany.

8 5. Appeasement Significance:
Hitler and Mussolini's actions of the 1930’s greatly concerned the democratic states of Europe and the U.S. 1936 – Hitler sent troops into the demilitarized Rhineland 1938 – Germany takes the Sudetenland 1939 – Czechoslovakia ceased to exist, divided among Germany, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia. Each time Hitler is told not to invade and he does anyway. Chamberlain than gives more concessions. Hitler invades Poland and appeasement is over. Great Britain declares war on Germany
