1
The Authority of the Expressed in Scripture! (2 Peter 1:20-21)
The urge to re-interpret written standards is nothing new. We see it frequently in our courts, in revisionist history, and literary interpretation. But dare we interpret the expressed written will of our King to suit ourselves?
2
The KING has Expressed His Will in Writing
Jesus is our King (Rev.19:16; Matthew 28:18) His subjects are obliged to obey Him (Luke 6:46; Hebrews 5:9) The writings of the New Testament express the will of the King! (1 Corinthians 14:37; 2 Peter 3:2, 15-17)
3
Grace and the Authority of the King
Obedience does not exclude grace (Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 2:11-14) Grace can only come from One who has the authority to grant it (Mark 2:1-12) If we wish to avoid God’s wrath, we must obey Him (Colossians 3:5-7; Ephesians 5:3-6)
4
Two Possible Attitudes toward the King’s Authority
We ought to stay within the boundaries of what God’s word teaches, or We are free to move beyond the boundaries of what God’s word teaches. How can we even consider the second option? (John 8:31; 1 Thessalonians 4:1-2; Thessalonians 2:5; 1 Corinthians 4:6)
