2 Gay-Lussac’s Law Compares pressure to temperature
If pressure increases, collisions of particles increase. If collisions of particles increases, temperature increases

3 P1 = initial pressure T1 = initial temperature (K) P2 = Final Pressure T2 = Final Temperature (K)

4 Example An aerosol can containing gas at 101 kPa and 22o C is heated to 55o C. Calculate the pressure in the heated can.

5 Write down was is given P1 =101kPa T1 =22o C P2 = ? T2 = 55o C

6 Remember to convert temperature into Kelvin
T1 = 25o C = 295 K T2 = 55o C = 328 K

7 101 kPa / 295 K = P2 / 328 K = (101 kPa)(328K) / 295 K = 112 kPa
