Figure 2 | Exosomes mediate the systemic benefits of endurance exercise. Exercise-mediated contractility of skeletal muscle induces the release of exosomes (known as 'exersomes') containing exerkines (peptides, nucleic acids, lipids and miRNA species) into the circulation, which thereby promotes peripheral and distal organ crosstalk and the pro-metabolic systemic effects of endurance exercise.
