Parents and carers as partners in learning. You know your child best, and we value your support greatly! Homework diary Please inform children if you have written a note so that they can share it with me in the morning Questions, sharing of information or request a meeting Mornings – responsibility to look after the class so unable to talk at the door (use diary or request meeting via Miss Johnston at the office). School phone number – Please write a note in diary to inform school of reason for absences as well as contacting the school office on the day of absence

Its about ‘justice for all’ Whole school approach by all staff and pupils RESPECT – for everybody by listening to opinions of others RESPONSIBILITY – for your own actions REPAIR – identifying what went wrong and ensuring it won’t happen again What happened? Who has been affected? How can we find a way forward? How can we do things differently in the future? Takes time but it’s worth it!

Food & Drink for School Breakfast Water in class Healthy Play pieces
Essential! Impacts greatly on your child’s learning. Water in class Clean and refreshed water bottle daily – only water in the bottle –no juice or flavoured water please Healthy Play pieces Small, healthy snack at playtime – 15 minutes to eat, play and go to the toilet School Lunches. Free for P1-3. Lunch menus were sent home last week.

Transferable Skills Homework Grid
Piloted in upper school 2 years ago and continued following positive response from children and families, with request from parents/carers to carry over to younger children too Piloting up to Christmas and will be looking for feedback as well as any ideas from families to add to our skills grid Responsibility of families to choose when to do it so can fit into family’s lifestyle/work schedules etc. No need to hand into class, although children provided with opportunities to share experiences in class or via Twitter

Transferable Skills Homework Grid
Grid has a mixture of learning activities covering all of the Higher Order Thinking skills, however feel free to add your own to suit your child’s / family’s interests Learning is shared on Twitter, so there is an option to link home learning with class topics Please ask for guidance on how to challenge or support your child if needed Wide range of learning experiences that you can do as a family Homework jotter is provided Additional learning activities may be provided if your child needs supported or challenged on learning they are doing in class This can be by your request or your child’s as well as teacher

Family time Time for your child to share their learning.
Friday 28th September, Forth and Avon - 2pm until 2.45pm Monday 1st October, Carron and Tay - 2pm until 2.45pm Both days, doors open 1:30pm for a Bug Club workshop in the assembly hall. Please remember to sign in on arrival to class 2 adults per child please. Your child will be happy to see you! Dates in dairy for future family times.

Parent/Carer Evenings
Snap Shot Week Children will complete a selection of work in the Snap Shot jotter over the course of the week. Children will bring jotters home to share their learning. Please give your child feedback and sign the jotter before sending it back to school. Helps to keep you up to date with your child’s progress, and provides an opportunity for child to receive feedback from their family. Parent/Carer Evenings Twice a year, November and March Reports, June Form 4 Meetings throughout the year, first in September

Glossary of Useful Terms for P3
phonics – name for the learning of “sounds” phoneme – a single unit of sound, e.g. ‘c’ in cat. letter/phoneme sound – the sound the letter makes, e.g. ‘a’ as in ant letter name – its alphabet name, e.g. a as in ape grapheme – the written letter the ‘write hand’ – the method of saying the word, breaking the word into its phonemes, making the word using magnetic letters, blending the letters together then reading quickly as a single word before writing the word down. blending – stretching out each individual sound so that it almost runs into the next, e.g. c-a-t = cat. number bond - two numbers that go together to make another number, e.g. 6+4=10 (this is called a ‘number bond of 10’)
