Fig. 1 Comparison of the taxonomic profiles (phylum level) generated from three soil types (A, B and C) sampled at the four seasons throughout the year by AP-PCR based sequencing. Samples are named as follows: the capital letter such as ‘A’, ‘B’ or ‘C’ shows a location of soil sampling, representing site A, B or C respectively; and the next small letter represents season (time) of sample collection with ‘a’ for autumn, ‘w’ for winter, ‘sp’ for spring and ‘s’ for summer. Bray–Curtis distance similarity matrix was calculated from the square-root transformed abundance of DNA fragments matching taxa in the M5NR database (E-value<1×10−5). The Bray–Curtis matrix was used for generating (a) CLUSTER dendrogram and (b) NMDS ordination plot. The NMDS ordination plot displays distances between samples. Data points that are closer to each other represent samples with higher similarity of metagenomic profiles. Contour lines on the NMDS plot drawn around data points define the superimposition of clusters from CLUSTER dendrogram at the selected level of similarity. Stress value <0.1 on the NMDS plot gives good representation with no prospect of misinterpretation.
